Girl Power is Real!

Here at Prototype, the strength and power of female entrepreneurs is clear. Over 80% of our staff are women, and almost 90% of our clients! We market to both men and women equally, but women entrepreneurs still account for more than 9 out of 10 new clients. Pretty cool, right? While it may be a stereotype that fashion is dominated by women, traditionally that hasn't actually been true. Women may be the largest consumers of fashion, but traditionally the ownership and management of fashion labels has been dominated by men. Seems crazy, but in the business world women haven't been given the same opportunities as men. Well, if we can help it, and if current trends continue, that's not going to be the case much longer!

Here are some female entrepreneurs who inspire us:

J.K. Rowling: Harry Potter

J.K. Rowling, a single struggling mother created an entire fictional universe. Her creation has made her one of the most famous authors of all time. Rowling is also the only billionaire to later lose billionaire status due to charitable donations. Female entrepreneur AND philanthropist!

Sara Blakely: Spanx

Sara Blakely secured her spot as the world’s youngest self-made female billionaire. She has earned a current net worth of $1 Billion by starting Spanx, after quitting her job selling health insurance door to door.

Oprah Winfrey

No list is complete without the woman entrepreneur we all know and love, Oprah Winfrey. Worth an estimated $2.8 billion, it’s obvious how she can afford to give her tv show guests cars and more. She built her empire started by becoming a television news anchor and has now become a tv show, tv network, magazine publication, actress, and producer on several eye-opening films.

Cher Wang: HTC Mobile

Cher Wang is one of the most successful female entrepreneurs in the world. Her wealth is primarily of her own making via the cell phone industry. She spent many years manufacturing cell phones for others before launching her own company. It wasn’t until she set-up her own company, HTC that she became the business powerhouse she is today. She has an estimated worth of $6.8 billion, her HTC smartphones have quickly gain notoriety and in 2010, accounted for 20% of the smartphone market.

Asma Jahangir: Attorney

Asma Jahangir from Pakistan did more than just be an entrepreneur: She and her sister opened the first all female law in firm in Pakistan and co-founded the human rights commision of Pakistan. She went through incredibly heartbreaking and terrifying feats to bring peace to fellow citizens and lost much in the process. Asma recently passed in February 2018 at 66 years old.

Lauren Bush: FEED

Lauren Bush co-founded FEED at only 26 years old. FEED is non-profit organization that in only a few years has had a major impact on the world by providing over 50 million meals worldwide. The idea is simple. FEED manufactures and sells reusable bags that resemble feed bags with half of the proceeds going towards feeding the hungry. Lauren and her co-founder Ellen Gustafson started a partnership in 2007 with the United Nations World Food Program to push forward by producing more unique bags for people to buy.

Calling All Female Entrepreneurs!
